Welcome to Marist College and the School of Communication and the Arts. This site is intended to provide information about my personal and professional background, teaching and research interests, and activities that might be of use to students, colleagues, and friends. Teaching

  • Fall Schedule. This fall I am teaching COM471 -- Public Relations Case Studies and COM401 -- Communication Capstone. Visit my Student Page for my schedule of classes and office hours, contact points, and course syllabi.

  • Public Relations and Capping iLearn Project. During the spring 2008 semester, students in COM471 -- Public Relations Case Studies developed strategic communication plans to support Marist College's transition in course management systems from UCompass Educator eLearning to Sakai's open-source iLearn system. This project was conducted in direct support to Marist's Office of Academic Technology. Students briefed their plans to Marist College President Dennis Murray and members of his cabinet. Communication capstone students will execute these plans during the fall 2008 semester.

Research & Publications

  • Global Public Relations Book Chapter. Coauthor Dejan Verčič and I will have a book chapter, "Public Relations, Public Diplomacy, and Strategic Communication: An International Model of Conceptual Convergence," in The Handbook of Global Public Relations: Theory, Research, and Practice. The book will be published this fall by Routledge.

  • Study of Aging, Culture, and Communication. This summer, students in my graduate seminar in intercultural communication and I will study how differences in culture among generations influence communication among members of different generations. Members of Marist College's Center for Lifetime Study (CLS) will participate in our study. We hope to present results of our study by fall 2008.

  • International PR Research Conference. Coauthor Dejan Verčič and I presented our paper Public Relations, Public Diplomacy, and Soft Power: Conceptual Convergence or Credibility Crisis? (click here for a copy) at the 11th annual International Public Relations Research Conference in Miami on March 8. Our paper examined the implications of convergence among public relations, public diplomacy, and other soft power tools in political-military strategic communication programs.

  • Dissertation. Click on the following links if you would like to read or obtain a .pdf copy of the 10-page abstract and preface or the 469-page manuscript of Toward a Theory of Just Communication: A Case Study of NATO, Multinational Public Relations, and Ethical Management of International Conflict.
