RETREATS

The Freshman Retreat: making friends~~ keeping faith.

Being a Freshman and Catholic at Marist :

Welcome – to the first year of college with all of the challenges and opportunities of transition it presents to everyone.
We leave the familiarity of families, schools, communities and enter a world of possibilities, choices and decisions some more obvious than others.
Often at the center of these transitions and choices are a persons faith.
How can I sustain the faith I have come to embrace growing up?
Will that faith support me in the decisions with which I will be confronted?
Who are the people around me asking the same questions?
The Marist Freshman Retreat is designed for all members of the freshman class to share this journey of faith with their peers and benefit from the experience and wisdom of upperclassmen of faith who have made this transition.

  Catholic Freshman at Marist:
Through personal testimonies, discussions, prayer and song, as well as some fun activities, the twenty-five hour Marist Freshman Retreat offers students a chance to address some important issues while making new friends. For one day Sunday : 1:30/ 5:30PM ] the retreat draws first-year men and women together to reflect upon what they have brought to Marist and their hopes for their lives at Marist and beyond.

The Freshman Retreat is structured around three pillars:

Community- The retreat provides students with the opportunity to meet men and women from various dorms who are adjusting to life at Marist. It encourages them to listen to and speak with other students about what life at Marist has been like.
Faith- The retreat encourages students to express and explore the importance of their faith, while sharing what it is like to try to live one’s faith on a college campus. It also provides information about various opportunities where one might seek additional assistance for personal and spiritual enrichment.
Hopes- Students will be invited to reflect on their hopes for their time at Marist.

The retreat will provide the participants with a context to explore some of the ways in which their faith in God will sustain them and enrich their time at Marist as well as how it will contribute to the lives of others on, and beyond, campus.

Welcome – to an opportunity to share faith with those with whom you share so much! You choose who they are.
When we have so much in common we are faced with so many possibilities, choices and decisions that seem to challenge our relationship with those with whom we share so much.
Often at the center of these challenges and choices are a persons faith.
How can I sustain or sustained by the faith I have come to embrace?

Being a Minister at Marist :
Welcome –
to the ministering to the needs of others to enter into the presence of God in : Word, Song and Sacrament.
We, who come together at mass to be ministered to, have answered the call to minister to others at the same time.
Often our being part of the very group we are called to serve, we are made better at knowing the needs of those who come together in faith.
How can I minister while I worship?
Will my faith support me in the efforts I will make to minister to the students with whom I live, work and play?
How am I worthy of being so publicly connected with this weekly worship service?
