This portrait of me was drawn by Beth Adams in 1996 (I think she was 8 years old at the time). I spent the Spring semester that year serving as a visiting instructor for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, in the Department of Mathematics. Beth's mother Michelle was one of my students at UCCS. Because of a snowstorm Beth's school was closed for the day so Michelle brought her to our Precalculus class. Beth kept herself busy sketching me as I taught my students some applications of trigonometry. If you click on the thumbnail sketch above you will see the entire drawing. On the right side of the larger drawing you may notice a boat-like object with an arrow through it. One of the applications of trigonometry I covered that day was basic navigation (heading, bearing, etc.). Beth captured my class as we worked on a problem about a ship navigating toward a buoy. So the boat-like object really is a boat. I hope my students were as attentive to the lecture as Beth was.

Someday I'll ask her why she sketched me with wings.

Course Information

Here are the textbooks for my Spring 2008 courses:

Okay, you asked for 'em, you got 'em: Frequently Asked Questions! (Oooh, almost like a real web site.)

Please Note: I keep some course material at the Marist College eLearning website.

Schedule

The office hours listed in my schedule are drop-in times (i.e., you do not need to make an appointment to see me). If you would like to see me in my office at a time other than my scheduled office hours, then you will need to contact me to schedule an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
