I was born and raised in the small town of Nobleboro, Maine (population 1626 as of 2000 census). I attended Saint Joseph's College, in Windham, Maine and graduated in 1991 with a B.A. in Mathematics and English. I completed my graduate work at Wesleyan University, in Middletown, Connecticut, receiving my Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1997. I have been at Marist College since 1996.
Currently, my research interests lie in three different areas. I am trained as a logician. More specifically, my dissertation explored the model theory of differential fields with one or more differential operators. More recently, I have done some joint work with Lynne Doty and Peter Krog (both in the Mathematics Department here at Marist) in the area of chip firing games. In addition, I am collaborating with Robert McGrail (my husband), a computer scientist at Bard College, on a project having to do with the sorting of weighted grades.
In addition to math- or work-related activities, I have many other interests including clothes shopping, shoe shopping, shopping in general, travel, quilting, and home renovation. My husband and I are in the process of (slowly) renovating an 1876 Victorian style house. This spring, I lined a closet with tongue-and-groove cedar and sheetrocked (and taped and mudded) my bathroom ceiling (by myself!!!).
